Avicii passes away aged 28

It has been announced that Swedish DJ Avicii has passed away at the age of 28.

His publicist Diana Baron confirmed the sad news in a statement. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th,” she said.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Avicii was a genuine pioneer of EDM and influenced many artists within the genre and further afield. The DJ had been releasing music since 2008 however, it was his 2011 single ‘Levels’ which propelled him to global stardom. Some of his other huge hits include ‘I Could Be The One’, ‘Wake Me Up’, and ‘Hey Brother’.

Avicii suffered from health issues in the past, including acute pancreatitis in 2012 and having his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014. The DJ retired from live performance in 2016 however, released his Avici EP last year. His most recent hit was ‘Lonely Together’ featuring Rita Ora.

Following the tragic news, many have flooded to social media to pay their respects to the incredible artist. Calvin Harris described him as “a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do”, whilst Martin Garrix thanked him “for inspiring me and millions others”.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Avicii’s family, friends and fans at this devastating time. @CelebMix
