Kanye West is Not Happy About Jay Pharoahs Skit at the VMAs

Kanye West is known for a lot of things. Most notably for being the husband of Kim Kardashian. He’s also known for being a rap star, for stealing the microphone from Taylor Swift as she was attempting to thank her fans for the award she just won and telling the world that as great as Taylor might be, Beyonce really should have won the award. Essentially, he’s known for having a kind of reputation. Either way, he’s enough of a celebrity to have made it into Jay Pharoah’s comedic routine at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

While his wife and sister-in-law sat in the audience smiling and laughing at Pharoah’s imitation of West, West himself was not amused by the Saturday Night Live comedian’s interpretation of him.  West performed at the Made in American festival in Philly over the weekend, and he addressed the crowd regarding Pharoah’s skit.

“I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV awards. I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position…’ So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that’s working hard, and helping the next man out,” said West during the show.

It’s not the first time West has been unhappy about a situation that involved his name, and it’s not the first time he’s addressed anyone who will listen regarding his feelings. Pharoah’s skit was entertaining and obviously in jest, but it seems West doesn’t take kindly to being imitated on stage in front of his wife and the rest of the world. Pharoah made several appearances on stage during the VMAs that night as a different rap star each time, and that includes Kanye’s good friend Jay-Z, who apparently wasn’t bothered by the comedian’s performance.
